Artist's Comments

For a while now I've been trying my hand at colouring various artists' linework, really just to develop my painting skills a bit, and since they're just excercises I don't really put too much effort into actually finishing them off (which is why there are none in my gallery). I initially started on this piece [link] for the same reason, but even just by the time I'd got the flats in I knew that I'd have to finish it. NeMA's linework just has so much character and life to it, and I had so much fun painting this. So much, in fact, that I think I'll have to have a bash at another of his pieces once I have a bit more free time again. Go check out his gallery tho - this guy's a name in the making, and no mistake!

I've no idea how long this took me - I've been working on it for a coupla weeks, but just the odd hour or 2 here & there. At a guess I'd say probably around 15-20 hours - half of that on the background. Which was half the reason I started on this in the first place - I really need practice at backgrounds. There are a coupla things I'm not 100% happy with, but on the whole I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out. I'd certainly appreciate any constructive crits, though, since this is actually the first time I've tried a full comic-style piece (previous excercises have pretty much just been character shots).

Photoshop all the way, and with very few tricks this time - just good old-fashioned painting. And I stress again - the painting's all I did. If you like the drawing, go pay NeMA some respect [link]

Well, the detail's all down to NeMA - all I had to do was colour it in! ^_^

Cheers much for the compliment tho, and even more so for the +fav - very much appreciated!

Man, I'm so pleased you like it. After all, you're like the only person whose opinion really counts, since it's your art I was working on. Cheers for that!

This is some DAMN fine work.

The background is solid. Good textures on the street and especially the trees. The trees are excellent work! Leaves and bark amazing detail! Spidey looks great! Shadows! Really a great, great job. I sincerely hope you try out the Seven Swords page. I would very much like to see what ytou do with the characters.

Well, to be perfectly honest, I don't think I'll be able to colour the page sample to the same standard - if I did, doing a whole issue would take me about 4 months! But I've been trying to figure out quicker colouring techniques, so hopefully I'll still be able to pull off something interesting when I give it a shot. And with any luck, you'll like the results. We'll see...

HA! Well there's only 7 pages for the submission + 7 character designs a pin up and the cover. So slightly less than a actual book. Plus I'll be flatting for whoever gets the gig so that's one less drama to worry about too. Do you have a page rate?

why is that guys belt backwards?

i woaldnt nead a comooter if my speeling were asseptable

Heehee - you mean on the skater guy in the foreground, right? My, you really have been paying attention, huh? Well, I could just cop the easy-out and say that I only did the colouring-in, not the drawing itself, but to be fair, I don't really think his belt is actually on backwards. I reckon it's just one of those leather/metal emblem belt-loop/patch things you sometimes get on the back of a pair of jeans. Well spotted, though!

;D
